Still Going Solo features four distinct performances running in repertory (see calendar) exploring challenging topics ranging from issues of body image to familial, political and societal relationships, to the source of creativity itself.
Tickets are available online. Puchase tickets to each show seperately, or purchase a 2-show package!
Bulletins from Fatland, a darkly funny, poignant and occasionally shocking play by Shelley Herman Gillon, stars Caren Anton channeling among others a female sumo wrestler, an African American pastor, an East London housewife, and a Big Easy waitress - all struggling with body image, acceptance, redemption and the dreaded word “fat.”
Communion, by Kumani Gantt and Vanessa Thomas, uses stories excavated from the back pages of the newspapers and interviews with women from all walks of life to examine the intersection of spirituality and sexuality as it lives in women's bodies. The results are both divine and profane as the characters portrayed by Thomas strive to reconcile the conflict between God, sex, and life.
Deep Thoughts and Dark Chocolate: Musings from the Road of Life, a cabaret show from Terri Allen uses the rhythmic melody and poetry of songs from contemporary artists to explore the challenges of life, love, and loss in the modern woman’s world, and the inspiration we must find within ourselves to keep moving on.
Frida Vice-Versa, stars Marian Licha, who co-wrote the play with R. Dennis Green, as legendary Mexican artist Frida Kahlo instructing a master class in painting. In Kahlo’s art class, the first lesson becomes the final lesson; death can be life and vice-versa. In spite of physical pain and a philandering husband, Frida inspires her students to live life with passion.
The regular performance schedule will be augmented by two Monday night previews of new solo pieces created by women artists and by a workshop on creating solo work given by several of the performing artists.
