Meet the Board!
LESLIE JACOBSON (Artistic Director)
Leslie Jacobson has been the Artistic Director of Horizons Theatre since its founding, and has directed or produced over 100 productions for the theatre. Ms. Jacobson has received many awards, including a Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Direction of a musical, A . . . My Name is Alice in 1988. In addition to her directing, Ms. Jacobson is an accomplished playwright and lyricist. In 1997, she wrote the book and lyrics for the musical, Croak, or The Last Frog with music composed by Anne LeBaron. With musical director Roy Barber, she developed I Want to Tell You, a show that tours high schools and promotes tolerance and self-acceptance among students. In January of 1999, Ms. Jacobson directed the world premiere of Richard Rashke's Dear Esther, co-produced by Horizons and the Center Company, and first performed at the U.S. Memorial Holocaust Museum. This past year, she directed the world premiere of actress Julie Portman's performance piece, Three Roses, produced by the Ki Theatre. Since 1995, Ms. Jacobson has been the Chair of the Theatre and Dance Department of George Washington University where she has been a faculty member since 1977.
MARNI E. BYRUM
Marni E. Byrum is a lawyer specializing in the areas of employment litigation. She is a frequent lecturer regarding labor and employment law and Fee Arbitration Disputes, and is on the adjunct faculty of the Washington College of Law at American University. Ms. Byrum is a former president of the Virginia Women Attorneys Association. In 1996, Ms. Byrum was appointed to the President's Economic Advisory Council and was elected to the Alumni Association Board of Directors. Ms. Byrum joined the Horizons Board in 1996 and currently serves as treasurer.

IDA PROSKY
ROBERT PROSKY
Robert Prosky is an accomplished theatre and film actor. For over 23 seasons, he worked at Arena Stage in Washington, D.C. For the last 20 years, he has had a distinguished career in film and television, including noteworthy performances in the long-running tv show, Hill Street Blues, and in films such as Dudley Do-right, The Scarlet Letter, Dead Man Walking, Last Action Hero, Mrs. Doubtfire, Far and Away, Hoffa, Green Card, Gremlins 2, Things Change, The Natural, Broadcast News, and others. Mr. Prosky received a Bravo Award from Horizons Theatre in 1997.
DEBORAH TANNEN
Deborah Tannen is best known as the author of You Just Don't Understand: Women and Men in Conversation, which brought gender differences in communication styles to the forefront of public awareness. It was on The New York Times best seller list for nearly four years, and was translated into 24 languages. Ms. Tannen has published 18 other books including The Argument Culture, Talking From 9 to 5: Women and Men in the Workplace, and most recently, I Only Say This Because I Love You: Talking to Your Parents, Partner, Sibs, and Kids When You're All Adults, which received a Books for a Better Life award for 2001. Dr. Tannen is a professor of linguistics at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. She received her PhD in linguistics from the University of California, Berkeley. In addition to her linguistic research, writing, and speaking, Dr. Tannen has published poetry, short stories, and personal essays. Two of her plays, An Act of Devotion and Sisters were produced by Horizons Theatre in 1995.
